National Crime Stoppers Day is celebrated across Australia every year and aims to raise awareness of the vital role Crime Stoppers plays in keeping the community safe.
This year’s theme for Crime Stoppers Day is “Not all heroes wear capes” acknowledging that the everyday people who provide information are helping solve crime and protecting the community which is a heroic thing.
ACT Region Crime Stoppers is particularly wanting Canberrans to get on board with the information they share potentially leading to charges and arrests.
“We urge Canberrans to share information about any suspicious or unusual events. What may seem insignificant could be the missing piece police need to solve a crime,” said Diana Forrester, Chair of both Crime Stoppers Australia and ACT Region Crime Stoppers.
“The smallest piece of information can assist police and people should not be concerned about sharing it with Crime Stoppers,” said Diana
“In 2020, Crime Stoppers received 244,502 calls and 183,909 online reports across Australia. This information resulted in 6,620 arrests and 18,608 charges.”
“Everyday Australians can help solve crime and protect the community just by sharing what they know with us, and even the smallest piece of information can make a big difference,” Diana said.
