ACT Region Crime Stoppers (ACTRCS) is proud to announce the endorsement of its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) by Reconciliation Australia

ACTRCS Chair Oliver Forrester said, “ACTRCS is dedicated to being a leader in the reconciliation space. As a small, non-profit community organisation, we recognise our unique opportunity to make a powerful impact in the journey towards reconciliation and we take our responsibility to demonstrate this commitment seriously.”

Karen Mundine, Chief Executive Officer said, “Reconciliation Australia welcomes ACT Region Crime Stoppers to the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) program with the formal endorsement of its inaugural Reflect RAP.”

“Since 2006, RAPs have provided a framework for organisations to leverage their structures and diverse spheres of influence to support the national reconciliation movement.” Ms Mundine added.

The ACTRCS RAP outlines a series of initiatives and actions that will serve as the foundation of its ongoing commitment to reconciliation. These include:

  • Cultural awareness training: Deliver cultural competency training to volunteers, board members, and stakeholders to ensure greater understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and contemporary issues. This will include partnerships with local Indigenous organisations ACTRCS board members to participate in workshops and training sessions.
  • Indigenous community engagement: Work closely to establish regular opportunities for engagement, including hosting community forums and supporting cultural events.
  • Indigenous representation in Crime Stoppers’ initiatives: Increase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representation in ACTRCS programs, volunteer network and outreach campaigns.
  • Culturally competent communication: Ensure its communications are culturally appropriate and inclusive.
  • Support for indigenous-led initiatives: Support Indigenous-led initiatives focused on crime prevention, social justice and community safety through grants and partnerships.
  • Strengthening partnerships: Secure partnerships with Indigenous organisations, leaders and community groups to enhance collaboration in key areas such as crime prevention and community wellbeing.
  • Policy development: Develop internal policies that promote respect and reconciliation.

“Our RAP, which will officially launch in January 2025, sets out a clear series of activities designed to build cultural understanding, strengthen community relationships and create a more inclusive Canberra for everyone.” Mr Forrester explained.

Karen Mundine explained, “ACTRCS joins a network of more than 3,000 corporate, government, and not-for-profit organisations that have made a formal commitment to reconciliation through the RAP program. Congratulations ACTRCS, welcome to the RAP program, and I look forward to following your reconciliation journey in the years to come.”

This important achievement reflects Crime Stoppers ACT’s deep commitment to fostering meaningful, respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and promoting inclusivity across the Canberra region.
